PARTICIPATORY DEMOCRACY

Updated: Jul 21, 2020

AUTHOR- Anshul Rajak

Participatory democracy considers political participation of the masses as a basic characteristic of democracy. Political participation is an activity whereby one takes an active part in the process of formulation, formulation and implementation of public policies and decisions. The activity of any politician, government official or ordinary citizen can be done under any political system.

Participatory democracy emphasizes the participation of ordinary citizens in the democracy process. Proponents of participatory democracy argue that today's representative democracies give their citizens very little opportunity for meaningful participation in the decision process. If citizens get more opportunities for political participation, they will discuss in detail the public problems. He will keep a close watch on the activities of politicians and will stop the misuse of power and corruption.

Thinkers such as Russo believed that maximum participation of citizens' direct participation is necessary in reaching public judgment under democracy. This is the aim of expansion of Panchayati Raj in India. In the process of determining public policies, the use of circumcision should be encouraged.
