At the time once the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), is debated within the country, not a lot of attention has been paid to its external implications. The Act grants citizenship to everyone except Muslims from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh have returned to India before New Year's Eve, 2014.
With an honest section of scholars, youths, and the Muslim community still hold protest against CAA for over a month, the problem has begun to draw international attention. The International Organization Human Rights Commission (UNHRC) has already referred to the ACT as ‘fundamentally discriminatory’. One has to recall here that once the Modi government abolished the Article 370 and altered the standing of Jammu and Kashmir from full statehood to Union Territory, the planet failed to listen to Pakistan’s outcry on the topic matter and thought of the problem as ‘internal matter’ of the Govt. of India.
However, the goodwill that PM Modi has generated within the last 5 years within the international arena is losing its momentum. One of the clear indicators of this trend is an assemblage of the meeting of Foreign Ministers of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) over Jammu and Kashmir. Therefore, whereas this state of affairs is one where India doesn't stand to lose a lot of tangibly within the short run, its systematic defensive stance on the CAA and also the state’s guilt in riots and violence threaten to alienate the remainder of the planet and impose vital prices in terms of diplomatic capital and trade relations.
